  • MI vs KXIP T20: ProSports11 Preview, Playing XI Updates & Fantasy Cricket Tips

The IPL’s third-poorest travelling franchise, Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), will quickly need to get over their travel sickness as they pursue their first playoffs appearance since 2014. A visit to a venue with some happy memories of late might just provide them with some much needed confidence against the Mumbai Indians (MI).

Traditionally slow starters, MI have now compiled back-to-back wins and haven’t been short of match-winning individual performances, with the likes of Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Jasprit Bumrah and Alzarri Joseph all lifting when needed.

The visitors are in playoff contention thanks to a franchise record seven consecutive wins at home, but have won just one of their last seven on the road dating back to 2018, and will remain a mid-table side lest they improve upon such a rut.

The stats suggest the coin toss won’t be of great importance here: MI win between 60-63% of their home games irrespective of when they bat, while visiting sides have a 34-36% win rate regardless of the result of the toss. Interestingly, KXIP’s record on the road is an impressive 48.65% (18 of 37) when the coin doesn’t fall in their favour.

The men in red have managed to blunt any potential home advantage enjoyed by MI over the years, winning four of the nine matches staged at this venue, including two of the last three. The last three H2Hs at Wankhede have all been won by the team batting first.

MI vs KXIP T20 – Fantasy Players To Watch Out For

All eyes will be on Alzarri Joseph (MI), who collected the IPL’s best ever bowling figures in his debut on Saturday.

KL Rahul (KXIP) booked his ticket to England with a very composed and professional 71 not out, showing much smarter match awareness throughout the middle and later overs. He has now compiled three half-centuries in his six innings.

Stat Attack

The average first innings score from the last seven matches at the Wankhede is a healthy 176.

MI and KXIP’s average powerplay scores of 46 and 43.2 respectively, both rank in the bottom half of the league (after Monday’s match).

MI’s highest ever score at the Wankhede Stadium (223/6) was in a losing effort against KXIP in 2017 – the third of just four occasions where both sides scored at greater than 11 runs an over!
