The question on everyone’s lips throughout the first half of the 2019 IPL was: “how much longer can Andre Russell keep saving Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)?” Not through a lack of performance from him, we learned on Tuesday that even his fifth consecutive score of 40+ was not enough.

KKR return home to Eden Gardens looking to deny Delhi Capitals (DC) a second ever H2H win at the venue, and more importantly, remain firmly in contention for a fourth consecutive playoff spot. The visitors, a postseason spectator for six years running, have an opportunity to make history on both fronts.

DC are yet to win consecutive matches in 2019, no fault of their impressive bowling attack, five of whom have sent down at least 12 overs at an economy rate of under 8.4.

The men in purple have won an impressive 75.76% (25 of 33) of home matches when chasing a score, while Delhi have won just 19.05% (four of 21) of their away games when batting first, so this looks an important toss to win.

The hosts have won seven of eight at home to Delhi (in Kolkata) as part of a 13-9 H2H record in their favour.

KKR vs DC T20 – Players To Watch Out For

Dinesh Karthik (KKR) is quickly running out of opportunities, having passed 20 just once this campaign for 91 total runs (avg 22.75). No such problem for Capitals captain Shreyas Iyer, who leads the way with 215 tournament runs including three scores of over 40.

Stat Attack

KKRs average powerplay score of 48.2 in 2019 is the second highest of all teams (after Wednesday’s fixture).

DC’s win rate of just 30.23% as an away outsider is the third-poorest of all 2019 franchises. DC have lost the toss in six of eight visits to Eden Gardens, losing all six fixtures.
