  • Australia vs India 2nd test: India's predicted XI

After clinching a close victory in 1st test, India are all set to face Australia in the 2nd test which starts tomorrow in Perth. India’s bowling unit was at the top of their game as they dismantled the Aussies and won the 1st test by 31 runs.

With the 2nd test about to start, India’s spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and middle-order batsman Rohit Sharma have been ruled out due to injuries. Losing Ashwin will be a massive blow for India and Virat Kohli has a real selection dilemma in his hands.

Prithvi Shaw still hasn’t recovered from the injury he picked up during the practice match.

Will Virat Kohli go with Bhuvneshwar Kumar or Ravindra Jadeja? Will he go with an extra batsman or extra bowler? Here is India’s predicted XI for the 2nd test –

KL Rahul & M Vijay – Openers

Since Prithvi Shaw is ruled out for the 2nd test, India will stick with the opening pair that played in Adelaide. There are serious concerns over KL Rahul’s poor test form.

2018 has really been a poor year for KL Rahul. In the 11 tests he played this year, he scored 466 runs at an average of 24.52. He scored just 1 test century this year. Virat Kohli has shown his faith in KL Rahul by not dropping him.

As far as Murali Vijay is concerned, luck has worked in his favour big time. Before the test series started, the proposed pair for the series was Prithvi Shaw and KL Rahul. Recently, Murali Vijay got dropped in the test series against England.

Murali Vijay’s batting average in tests in 2018 has been even lower than KL Rahul’s. He scored 262 runs averaging 20.15. Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar was critical of KL Rahul after his poor show continued in 1st test.

Che Pujara, V Kohli, A Rahane, H Vihari, R Pant – Middle order & Wicketkeeper

Cheteshwar Pujara’s Adelaide show was reminiscent of what Rahul Dravid did against the Aussies 15 years ago in 2003-04 series. Rahane’s knock of 70 in 2nd innings proved very crucial to India’s only third overseas victory in 2018.

With Rohit Sharma out injured, Hanuma Vihari would be an ideal choice as Sharma’s replacement. R Pant had an eventful match as he equalled the world record of most catches in a test.

R Jadeja, J Bumrah, I Sharma, M Shami – Bowlers

Ashwin’s loss will be massive and Virat Kohli might go with Ravindra Jadeja by the looks of it. India’s bowling department in the 1st test was top notch.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s chances of making in India’s team in 2nd test are very dim. There are various reports which say that he will definitely be a part of 2nd test.
