IPL 2019: 3 debutants to watch out for

Indian Premier League has always been a stepping stone for young cricketers to pave their way to their national teams. IPL, over the years, has witnessed some brilliant performances by the debutants.

While the upcoming IPL 2019 is a chance to shine for many emerging cricketers of India, it is also an opportunity for the overseas players to prove their worth and take their T20 credentials to new heights.

With the IPL 2019 just a few days, here is a list of 3 deubtants to watch out for –

#1 Shimron Hetmyer – Royal Challengers Bangalore

He had a strike rate of 140 and hit the ball cleanly out of the park

Shimron Hetmyer was on every IPL team’s wishlist. After seeing his destruction against India, his name was on almost everyone’s lips. In the ODI series, he was Windies top scorer with 259 runs in 5 matches.

One aspect of his game which was worth noticing was his strike rate in the series. He had a strike rate of 140 and hit the ball cleanly out of the park. Royal Challengers Bangalore spent 4.2 crore in the mini auction to add firepower in their middle order for IPL 2019.

#2 Varun Chakravarthy (Kings XI Punjab)

Did you know about this cricketer before he went for a whooping 8.4 crore in auctions? Probably not.

With a base price of 20 lac, his price was multiplied by 42 times in the auctions. 5 IPL teams went after him in a crazy manner and Kings XI Punjab ultimately came out on top.

Varun Chakarvarthy can bowl the off-break, leg-break, googly, carrom ball, flipper, top-spinner and a slider aimed at the toes of the batsmen to york them. It will be interesting to see whether if he justifies his price tag or not in IPL 2019.

#3 Jonny Bairstow (Sunrisers Hyderabad)

His name needs no introduction. England’s destructive opener Jonny Bairstow has had a wonderful 2018 and he carried the same form into 2019.

During the IPL mini auctions in November last year, he was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for 2.2 crore. He won’t be available for the full season but he can prove to be a real asset for Sunrisers Hyderabad.

One of the issues that SRH had last year was besides Shikhar Dhawan, there were no quality openers whereas Chennai Super Kings had two cracking openers. Sunrisers Hyderbad have strengthened in that aspect and he can also play the spin really well.
