  • IPL 2018: Qualification scenarios for 5 IPL teams
IPL 2018 has been the most open season in Indian Premier League’s history. Only two games are left for each IPL franchisee and 5 franchisees are up for Top 4 play-offs contention. MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings and Kane Williamson-led Sunrisers Hyderabad are the only two teams which have qualified as of now. KXIP lost to RCB yesterday which has made Top 4 race very interesting.
Net-run rate (NRR) will play a massive come the end of the season as if multiple teams finish with 12 points, teams like RR and RCB will get the favour out of it. This T20 season has been full of twists and turns.
Delhi Daredevils have been eliminated from IPL 2018 as they just managed to win 3 out of 12 matches. Gautam Gambhir stepped down as captain in an extraordinary fashion as he said no to his Rs 2.8 crore salary.
SRH 12 9 3 18 0.400
CSK 12 8 4 16 0.383
KKR 12 6 6 12 -0.189
RR 12 6 6 12 -0.347
KXIP 12 6 6 12 -0.518
MI 12 5 7 10 0.405
RCB 12 5 7 10 0.218
DD 12 3 9 6 -0.478
Here are the qualification scenarios for the 5 IPL teams-
1. Kings XI Punjab
Punjab were the favourites to qualify but the 1 week long break put a halt in their season. There are strong rumors of KXIP’s owner Preity Zinta having a verbal spat with the coach Virender Sehwag.
Their equation is simple. If they win both of their remaining matches, they will go through. If they lose one, things will get very dicey for them as they might struggle with the NRR.
2. Rajasthan Royals
RR managed to win just 3 out of their first 9 games but Jos Buttler has bounced them back into the Top 4 contention. They face KKR in the next game and if they can beat KKR, there are good chances of them going through.
3. Kolkata Knight Riders
KKR gave the captain’s responsibility to Dinesh Karthik as Gautam Gambhir was purchased by Delhi Daredevils. The next game against Rajasthan Royals will have a huge say in their top 4 hopes. They have a negative NRR as of now which might come back to haunt them.
4. Royal Challengers Bangalore
Virat Kohli’s men have bounced back after back-to-back wins but their chances are very low. RCB will depend on how the rest of the teams will fare in their respective matches.
5. Mumbai Indians
Mumbai Indians and RCB are sitting very tight with just 10 points in the bag and their fans will be praying for the other results to go in their favour. Both teams will have to win their remaining two matches.
