AB de Villiers: The man for all seasons

AB de Villiers bids adieu to international cricket

AB de Villiers has announced his retirement from all formats with immediate effect as he passed this information through his twitter handle. This South African superhero is the most complete player of his generation without-a-doubt.
AB de Villiers played 420 international matches as he bids adieu to international cricket. To put his cricketing career in a nutshell, he has been this giant whose enigmatic force wasn’t matched by anyone. He invented new shots which no one could ever have dreamt of during his time and it’s a pity that we won’t get to witness his theatrics ever again.

De Villiers has been an innovator on the cricket circuit more than anything. He scored 8765 runs in test format averaging just over 50. In ODIs, he was a run-machine as he scored 9577 runs averaging well over 50 and it was an absolute treat to watch him bat. In the retirement video that he uploaded on twitter, AB de Villiers said – ‘It is not about earning more somewhere else. It’s about running out of gas.’  He has pushed human capabilities to next level and it is totally understandable. He has retired just 4 days after Royal Challengers Bangalore got eliminated from IPL 2018.

This catch to dismiss Alex Hales in IPL 2O18 was a reminder to the world that nothing is impossible for AB de Villiers.

The legends of the game were full of praise for this 34-year-old superstar. Sachin Tendulkar tweeted – “Like your on-field game, may you have 360-degree success off the field as well. You will definitely be missed. My best wishes you to always, @ABdeVilliers17!,” Virender Sehwag tweeted – “Congratulations @ABdeVilliers17 , the most loved cricketer in the world, on a wonderful career. International cricket will be poorer without you, but you will continue to be celebrated by cricket fans around the world,”
AB de Villiers’ name has been etched in the heart of the people who watch this beautiful game. He controlled the momentum of the game and if he lasted more than 20 balls on the field, the opposition players knew that they are in for something special. He has been loved internationally. He has been acknowledged for his superman acts by everyone throughout his illustrious career.
It is difficult to fathom the fact that he has actually retired from international cricket as everyone thought that his world runs around the notion of invincibility.
